I'm looking to buy my first frame pack. I've been looking into kifaru. Are the frames custom built to your dimensions? Would I be able to buy a used one on the classifieds and have it fit ok? Any insight would be appreciated

They aren’t going to build a custom frame, but they will take the series of measurements that you provide when ordering their frame to ensure that they best fit a frame and belt to your HT, WT, waist size, and inseam. They do make in-between belt sizes if you straddle their existing size range. If you’re accurate and honest in your provided info, they’ll get you the right pack.

I bought a used kifaru hunter duplex off here and it fits great, I'm very happy with it. Stay length, belt size, length of the shoulder straps, and the shape of your back need to be considered before purchase. Figure out what you need and then start watching the classys or post a wtb ad. Way cheaper than buying new!

This may be a dumb question. How do you know what back profile you have?

Kifaru touches on this in a pack fitting video. Basically as I recall, if you can slide a fist behind your lumbar area while standing against a wall you’re normalish. Flat doesn’t leave room for a hand in there.

I am 5’11, 34” waist and run a 26” tall frame with a medium belt.
I have no but. Started with the normal back profile stays and the frame would slide down with weight attached.
Switched to the flat back stays and it’s a much better fit for me.

I've had nothing but great experiences with Kifaru's customer service. As others have suggested, give them a call and they'll get you figured out.

As suggested, give Kifaru a call. Kifaru has two stay options, one option being composite for normal backs and aluminum for curved backs. In addition the aluminum stays can be bent to custom fit your back. Kifaru will be able to answer all questions concerning the stays, the length you need and a pack that will suit you. Fatrascal.

If you go kifaru I strongly recommend the aluminum stays. So many are hung up on saving an ounce or two. My belief is to not save your ounces on the stays. The carbon stays are a fixed position stay and do work for many. BUT, having aluminum stays and being able to get a PERFECT FIT is worth so much more than a few oz.

I'm about your size as well, and found a 26" frame with Medium belt is about perfect.
That's me on the left, and the guy on the right bought a Kifaru after our sheep hunt together. :)

I probably just need to give them a call but can anyone tell me if I would need an extra small belt? I am a 29" waist
