Found a 358 win in a ruger hawkeye

So on a whim I stopped at a local estate auction and a ruger hawkeye in 358 topped with a Leopold vx2 3-9 jumped in my truck, then 250 barnes ttsx & tsx jumped in, then 150 nib win brass, a redding die, and 4 part boxes of ammo all piled in...

I guess I'm hunting deer with a 358 win this year lol.

What's yalls thoughts on ruger hawkeyes, and pet barnes loads for the 180 tsx, 200 ttsx bt, and 225 tsx's?

I would start with the 180's, just for the extra speed. Bunch of powders work, but I have settled on TAC for most things. I would push the copper bullets as fast as practical, but if you do end up trying some of the lead options you don't need to push them hard for nice performance.

Nice score! I shoot TAC and 180 TTSX out of my .358. I’ve shot deer, elk and hogs with it. They don’t go far.

Big fan of those rifles. Tension on the front action screw really changes how they shoot...

I got a Ruger Hawkeye, the "guide gun" in .375 Ruger and I like it so much I'm thinking of getting the African version as well, just not sure which caliber/cartridge to get the next one in yet.

The one I have handles the recoil well, the bolt works smoothly, and is as accurate as my Tikka.

Wow, great find! I am fan of the 77’s especially the Hawkeye. Steve is right the front screw needs to be torqued tight. In my experience, all of the action screws need to be tighter than most other rifles. Most of the time when folks say their 77 won't shoot, it is a result of the action screws not being torqued correctly.

Update! I shouldn't have shot it. Id researched the Hawkeyes a little, they were supposed to shoot well. I must say I'm very impressed. Stacking 200 gr pills at 100 yds should put game in the freezer!

Man I wish estate sale in my area were this awesome. I was planning on building a 16” 358win and loading the TSX 180s with TAC Hot. What a find!

Thank you, I'm debating getting a synthetic stock to save the nice oil finished original and maybe threading the barrel for a can
