I recently added this press to my bench. The quick change dies seem nice. My question is the Forster locking rings on their dies fit nice and snug. But most my dies are RCBS. They don't fit near as snug as the Forster rings. I know I can switch the locking rings to tighten things up but I don't want to buy 30 or so rings. Anyone have any issues using the RCBS dies as is with their locking ring setup? Thanks

The main point of the Forster is to have a precise quick change setup. You "can" use the RCBS rings, but I would imagine the steel rings would eventually beat up the interface from all the movement. I'd rather have one set of Forster rings and setup my dies each time, vs not using it as intended.

Use the RCBS rings as a stop gauge for installing the Forster rings. I did this when I switched over from my old Lee press and only had a few rings.

I had locking rings on my lee dies so it held pretty dang close to zero, but something like this.
  • Thread the Forster ring up to the old ring
  • Snug Forster ring down
  • Unthread the old ring
  • Install into press
  • Use as you normally would
  • Reverse process for storage
It'll at least keep you in the ball park so it's not a complete setup each time.

The Forester rings are larger diameter than RCBS. Using RCBS will put the die out of alignment with the shellholder. You're better off to use Forester rings.

Awesome. Thank you for the help and pics!
