Former military members?

Law enforcement. It’s been a good choice, really. But if I had it to do over, I’d stay in the Army for at least 20. I could have retired at 38 and still become a cop.

In many ways, I’ve never gotten the Army out of my system. I was a young Sergeant/E5 and doing well. I got a good Non Commissioned Officer Evaluation Report when I got out. I wish I had stayed in and gone to Special Forces selection.

But that ship has sailed and it isn’t returning to port.

Funny, but even after all these years, I agree that I’ve never gotten out of my system either.

I’m with 3D LCT (what use to be 3/3 before they were disbanded). The DNR/fish and game route has always been attractive; however, I don’t know how well I would fit in with that crowd. Much like fitting in with the platoon much better than I fit in with the Navy side of the house, if that makes sense? Like I said above, my interests are all over the place: tac medic, search and rescue, guide, bush pilot, the list goes on.

One of my good army buddies has been a fish cop in MT since we got out in 2018. A downside that he has relayed to me is his busiest seasons are during hunting season and he can’t really hunt with work buddies since someone is always on shift or on call. Now he has the pulse on his area so when he does get to hunt he is into animals that is for sure but he hunts a fraction of the time that something like a firefighter gets to… something to consider

Went to school for a semester. Then got a job at a mine that paid me well. During that time I started making holsters. 2017 Razco was born and 2020 It became my full time gig. The mine thing is a pretty good gig if you like to hunt as most are 2 or 3 weeks on at a time then 2 or 3 weeks off. Rough if you've got a young family though.

Got out, worked in civil construction until school started. Went to NAU on the GI bill originally for forestry/wildlife management to be a game warden (go figure). Realized quickly that the career prospects in that field did not align with all of my life goals. Changed my major late in the game to a build your own major program where I completed minors in Biology and Construction management. I am now 5 1/2 years into my construction career. I was a project engineer for the first 4 years and I’ve been a project manager for the last year and change. I absolutely love it.

I’m in Md, and most of the fish and game people are also hunters and fishers. I think you’d fit in fine unless you happen to not like hunting or fishing, but this would be a weird place to find you if so lol

Stay in. Become a SARC (who needs to be a SEAL anyway?). Retire at 20. Go forth and prosper in a second career. Look back with satisfaction knowing you went there and did that.

Wife got a great paying job when I got out, so I take care of the house and kiddos.

I fill my spare time with hunting or volunteering with a veterans non-profit. It is a blessing to be more present in my sons lives than I ever thought I would be and get give back to other vets and active duty service members as well.

I will say that I thought being a stay at home dad would be an easy transition... boy was I wrong

Former 0311 with 3/6 in 2009-13. Got out used my GI Bill and got an engineering degree and currently work as a structural engineer. I also moonlight as a nasty guardsman.

I can retire in 2 years with a full pension. I started a non-profit to take veterans first responders and their kids hunting and fishing to try to give myself something to do post service life and also give back.

I will only take jobs I want to do after I hang it up. Get busy living or get busy dying, and I’ve put a lot of living aside. I invested my money, lived below my means, and could theoretically make the same in retirement that I do now without having to work. So anything I do is a bonus for my family.

This December I'm finishing my bachelor's degree in biz management via the chapter 31 program. I got out in 2010, and had to get a waiver to get in.

I was a Chinook mechanic in the Army, got out and went into A&P mechanics. Got into power generation and heavy equipment after a couple years. Heavy equipment work pays better. I retired from mechanic work at 50. Got bored and started working as a contract pilot car moving big loads around the state. I reretired three years ago. Done a lot of stuff in my life. My wife worked for the state of Alaska for thirty years which gave me the chance to travel and work at what I wanted. She retired in 04.
