For everyone who is considering moving to WY…

A week ago I took this pic of the wind sock just south of Wheatland

Right after that I saw a pickup/trailer in the median that had blown over - zoom in on the pic and you can see it.

They disregarded the wind restrictions for light/high profile vehicles.

I mean, if he wasnt pouring the coffee 3 miles from the cup, it would've been fine. Its a scare tactic. The wind in WY isnt anything compared to ID. If you're thinking of moving to any mountain states, I strongly advise against ID due to winds. WY has a couple gusty days over all.

I live in WY and we’ve had some serious wind this week. You just have to deal with it. Dang tumble weeds are terrible this year. Anyone wants some I can send you truck loads of them.

The best one was the video a couple years ago north of Cody of the stock trailer tumbling across the flats after it got ripped free from the truck pulling it.

My dad and I were wrapping up a MT hunt and were driving some back roads west of Biddle, our last day of hunting. My dad had a permit left and shot a deer. We tagged and gutted it, dragged it to the truck and threw it in the trailer. The weather/wind got real bad and we basically limped into Gillette and got a room. Tried to get a tarp over the deer that night but was not possible. 8-10" of snow that night and drove back to MO the next day. That country is not for the weak.

I drove past that trailer laying on its side before they got a wrecker to get it out of the field.

Should have seen us trying to get sheathing on the roof of a shop house on Monday. We had to do it because wind was scheduled to get worse.

This morning I gave someone a ride who is not from WY and when they went to get in my truck they said “it’s locked” to which I said “No, it’s the wind pushing the door, pull harder”. Two hands on the door handle and a bit of oomph got the door to open despite the wind.

Im so glad I dont really sheat roofs anymore. Days with wind were the most unjoyous days.

I’ll never forget driving across SD on vacation a few years ago with the steering wheel cocked over 20 degrees to one side to stay straight in the interstate.

Then every time we passed a bridge or truck that blocked the wind, I had to jerk the wheel back straight for a moment. Tough driving. But gorgeous country.
