I did have a Leupold fail on me in the field. A FX-II 4x33 on my .300...that was on my back....when I fell ass over teakettle down a scree chute in the AK Range. Yeah, that one broke..along with my collarbone and a bunch of other stuff holding my head on my body.
I've also got a M8 2.5x that hasn't been adjusted since the rifle left the factory in 1998 and another 6x that's never shifted zero.
I don't know about the newer, more complex scopes...but the old fixed power stuff is pretty bulletproof.
