for 9.3x62 barnes bullet 250 gr tsx or ttsx

I honestly think if Cape buffalo were my target species, I don’t think I would take my 9.3x62. This would be mostly out of respect to the laws or customs where it is being hunted. That being said. If I had a 286 swift A-frame, 286 nosler partition, 286 TTSX, 258 hammer, or 250TTSX and was given the opportunity or out of necessity I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot a Cape buffalo with it.

I load above SAMMI pressures so the 2350fps with 286’s is more like 2500fps. 250’s are 2600fps from a 22” barrel.

The laws all have specific exceptions for the 9.3x62.

Not all. Look at the laws (AH.com is a good resource for this). Some countries allow 9.3 caliber but specify an energy requirement that isn’t met by factory 9.3x62. This will all be country and PH specific, but it’s not a problem until it’s a problem. I.e. someone is dead or injured and the low hanging fruit is a yank with an illegal caliber for the game pursued.

without going too much into rules or laws and africa i can say with certitude that there is no such a rule for CAR when i worked and guided there for the .375 ... and despite that it is published on ah ...

some people have taken in namibia legally the cape buffalo with the 9.3s if you load up you can use and the same can be said for zimbabwe.

the gazette of the late 50s in kenya was authorizing 9.3x62 and 9.3x74r for experienced hunters. in all my years never seen a difference between the 9.3x62 and the 375hh or the 375 ruger at the distance used for hunting big game or dangerous game but that is my experience and not a legal advice for sure ...

medvedyt,

I just spent two weeks in your area as I have each summer for four decades +.

I load the 9.3 250gr TSX with 60 grs of Varget for a very accurate load. I've taken both moose and grizzly with it.
A few years ago, I shot a 62" bull at 380 yards and dropped him with a lung shot. The bullet was under the opposite skin and had opened just the tip. I don't intend to change.

Right on Vern...we just got back last week from the YT. We also love being there...over and over again. Great experiences and great people.

medvedyt...it looks like you got your load figured out. The best to you for your hunts this year, sir!
