Wyoming just recently retired Josh Allen's jersey although he was pre-transfer portal.I absolutely hate where college football has gone. You get a kid at, let's say Wyoming, that realizes he's Ohio State talent, BOOM, he's gone. There's maybe 10 teams that will win every championship every year because of the NIL money and transfers.
When we grew up, we knew who every kid in the state that went to a division 1 school was and it was big time if anyone went division 2. Most people went to Northern, BHSU, or Mines it seemed. We don't have the population base to fill out those teams. I think both sets of Dakota schools do a good job of keeping the talent home that can play at their level. They all take a few flyers on marginal kids every year, and they should. Some of them pan out some don't. I'm and assistant coach in AAA, the highest class in SD. I played in college. There simply aren't many Div 1 football players in SD and ND. I attneded a combine event in Aberdeen last weekend. There were around 120 kids there, 2028-2026 classes. There weren't 5 kids that have Division 1 metrics.
You fill half the rosters with Dakota Kids and you won't win many games.
Man, I love this time of year! So much on the line, and so many changes from week to week…especially this year.

As a Vandal fan, I'm right there with you! I think Boise's time in the sun is over for a while. It will interesting to see how the PAC unfolds. As it stands now, I don't think Boise has the NIL money to keep up with these other teams for very long.Boise City plays Washington tomorrow in the LA Bowl.
I’m really conflicted since I want both teams to lose.
Shit, they could just join a group of five conference for football and be guaranteed to get in every year.Maybe if they would joint the big ten or one of the others they might improve their odds of getting in, or just have a better record, and not leave it up to the selection committee.
We had two kids from Sturgis when I grew up that went to USD, on scholarship even, both coaches kids. One to SDSU for BB and football. He could have played D1in either sport, but chose to stay in state. He played in the NFL and is still regarded as the best athlete to come out of there, even 40 years later.....It is still big time if a kid goes D1. In Sioux Falls this year 1 to Iowa, one to Michigan State and 1 to SDSU. A few more SDSU from smaller towns.
Tampa has no offensive line and the D is not good right now. We were there two weeks ago for the Cards game and they barely pulled that one out. Gotta say my favorite team (Denver) is doing well, but I still think the Chiefs can pull one out at any point..... Ive actually been watching the NFL more this year and you are right that the parity is really crazy right now, which is fun for me as I am mostly disinterested and it makes for fun games.I sound like a broken record I know, but this year the parity across the NFL is crazy—take last night for example. Wouldn't want to be a professional gambler betting on NFL games![]()
Yeah, they need to give it up and just fully commit. Had they been in a conference this year, even the ACC and run through it they would have had much more of a shot. Have to say when ND and Texas both miss, it's a good year for me. I am somewhat just happy we made it, but really want to beat bama....again so we can play IU and see just how good they are. I hold no grand illusion that OU will make it but would be fun to finally just win the first one and get that monkey off our back. Our fanbase was really hoping ND would make it so we could play them just to show them a real defense. I know our offense is ugly most of the time but we have found a way to win most of them this year....Shit, they could just join a group of five conference for football and be guaranteed to get in every year.
Or schedule more good teams and beat them. They can literally play anyone they want in the country. The best ranked team they ended up beating that was ranked at the end of the season was USC at 16. Not sure how that is suppose to get them a top 10-11 ranking... According to preseason rankings the best team they had scheduled was Miami at #10. If you want to be ranked in the top 10-11 at the end of the season you need to schedule more than one team in the top 10 (and beat them) if you aren't in a conference and pad out your schedule with so many cupcakes like they do.
They have to be the most entitled fanbase in all of college sports... and thats saying something when the competition for that spot includes schools like Texas.
