Howdy,

Was told about this site by a friend and have been watching it some for the gear reviews but have found other areas to be useful as well.
I'm a DIY / public land hunter, big game, small game, with fishing thrown in - you name it. My son and i do lots of backpacking, but also hunt some from camps out of the truck and hike in to hunt - but always try to avoid the OHV areas. I'm out year round and always exploring new areas.

One thing I've learned over the years is that I've been helped by a lot of other generous folks and want to do the same. My view is the best way to insure the hunting sports will survive is by bringing in new people - and the best way to do that is to do what we can to make their outings successful and enjoyable. With that in mind I'll try to offer as much as I can to Rokslide members.

Happy and healthy 2015 to everyone!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm in Fort Collins. My son and I hunt mostly in north central and northwest CO just because it's closer than your corner. How was the fall in Montrose?

Hi Hida,

Fall wasn't too productive in the Montrose area this year. Out of a dozen people I know that went rifle huntin only one person connected this year. I just got a bow and am eager to try out the archery season. Lots of new stuff to learn and I'm very excited about it. Studying statistics now to try to pick a unit.

Tag soup. First season opener we were in our meadow about an hour before daylight. Heard a bugle about 400 yards out- then the coyotes ran the herd out of the basin. Next morning we got dumped on with snow and the knee deep trudging made it too hard to cover much ground. Stayed with it the rest of the week but no luck. We only heard one shot after the snowfall. Son hunted late season last week - cows everyday but no shot. One morning was a frosty -23 degrees!! At least we got a couple deer for the freezer. Good elk season anyway! They're all good!
