Hello all,

Long time lurker, finally making it official. I've been hunting MN for 30 years, mostly whitetail, turkey and grouse. This forum has been a great resource as I have tried to apply some of the gear and techniques used in Western hunting to my public land hunting in the Upper Midwest.

That said, a few years ago, I started working on building up points for elk and mule deer hunts in a few states out west. This spring, I drew a second choice cow tag in CO and I plan to use that to cut my teeth. Going into it with low expectations, with success being measured on gaining experience, maybe seeing some animals and learning something for future hunts. Hell, at least it will be a good camping trip! I've already started digging into old threads about gear lists and training plans.

Looking forward to being a bit more active on here and plan to contribute where I can.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome! I’m a fellow Minnesotan as well and have started coming to this site quite a bit lately. Lots of good information on here. Good luck out west, going on my second western hunt this fall in Montana. Regardless if you get an animal or not, it’s going to be a great experience.

I grew up in MN and hunted all of the same. The Air Force sent me CO in 1992 and I've never left. Elk are incredible animals and if you have some success you might get the bug to hunt out west every year. Good Luck, you're going to love it!

As the self-appointed chairman of the welcoming committee, it is my privilege to extend a laurel, and hearty handshake (virtual, of course) to our new MN member.

Welcome! Fellow Minnesotan as well. I'm hit or miss around here, but just drew a first rifle tag in CO for this fall so I'm starting to clock in a bit more. Been a little MIA on the out west game the last few years so trying to catch back up with gear and such as well.
