Hello, long time lurker and figured I should get more involved in the forum here. I bow and rifle hunt here in MN, as well as bird hunt and fish. Have been applying for some western hunts for a few years now and hunted elk in NM GMU 9 a couple years ago ( saw elk but unsuccessful). Also interested in reloading, muzzleloaders, BWCA...

Welcome from a fellow Minnesotan. Super into grouse hunting, fishing, and canoe camping. Do a fair amount of deer hunting as well.

Grouse have moved to the top of my list the past few years, have a lot of fun chasing them with the dog. Too bad I don't live in grouse country though.

As the self-appointed chairman of the welcoming committee, it is my privilege to extend a laurel, and hearty handshake (virtual, of course) to our new MN member.

What part of the state are you in? I live in the northeast corner of what could be loosely considered the metro area though spend most of the fall at my cabin in WI.

I am squarely in the twin cities area. I have encountered grouse just north of the twin cities but not on any reliable frequency to hunt so I usually head to NE Minnesota to chase them. What region of WI? Have not ventured to WI for any hunting, don't want to pay the NR costs there

Im kind of generally east of Rice Lake, South of Hayward. I live kind of near Forest Lake so its less than a 2 hour drive. As said above your first year you can get small game there for $45, after that is $90 which isnt bad though I am there a ton, might be a bit much for just a time or two. I end up getting a bundled fishing, small game, and deer tag for $295 a year.

Welcome FNG.

I used to see quite a few grouse on my little property in southern kanabec county which isn't too far north. Not as much the last year or 2 which coincides with more outdoor cat sightings.. might need dispatch a few.

I have seen that discount for WI before, and I get over to a cabin in Webb Lake occasionally, but I haven't been able to justify paying extra to miss birds out of state haha. I saw a covey of about a dozen grouse in Kanabec county last fall while deer hunting. But that is usually how it goes. I occasionally get up north of Virginia and usually do very well with grouse there.
