I'm heading out west for my first elk hunt in September. Anyone have any general tips? best rain gear recommendations?

I'm about to spend 3K+ on some NL pures, am I out of my mind?

As the self-appointed chairman of the welcoming committee, it is my privilege to extend a laurel, and hearty handshake (virtual, of course) to our new FL, via MO, member.

P.S. Scout, scout and then scout again. Also, no on NL's. I'd go 12x42 since out west. Buy used and save yourself a few BF's, Good luck on your hunt and keep us posted.

I think for your first elk hunt you could get away with buying some less expensive glass like some vortex razors.

It being your first time you might find out it’s not for you or you could get some NL’s that could double as being used in your other hunting like some 8’s or 10’s.

I also agree with Eddie on buying used most of the warranties are transferable.
