Just introducing myself. I have lived in southern Ontario, Canada for the majority of my life and have been in Michigan for the past three years. I have mostly hunted Whitetail (Rifle) and Waterfowl with a fair bit of upland as well. Unfortunately access to waterfowl has been severely limited since leaving Ontario - Michigan has a real dumb law about hunting in navigable waterways. Took my first whitetail with a bow last year and am hooked. I have a great Brittany that I have hunted over for the past 14 years, and am sad to say that I think last year was her retirement year, she has bad arthritis in both her back knees. My wife said she wont carry her out and wipe her butt again. My goal is to take an elk with my bow out west somewhere some day in the not too distant future. Thanks to all of you for all your help already.

As the self-appointed chairman of the welcoming committee, it is my privilege to extend a laurel, and hearty handshake (virtual, of course) to our new MI, via Canada, member.

If I have to chose, State... but since I am an import, and spent one year in PA, I cheer for the Nittany Lions - it really gets under the skin of my Michigan native friends.

Indeed, I try to stay out of it, but my boys won’t!

As for Elk, let me give you a bit of advice: don’t make the same mistake I did.
I spent way too much time planning, researching, and buying gear, thinking I had to have everything perfect. I wish I had just made up my mind, applied for a tag (or grabbed an OTC), and gone hunting.
You’ll learn more in few days out there than in a year of prepping from home. I wish I had started sooner.

Welcome, left 46 years ago and never looked back. Good luck on your Elk quest. Western hunts are the best.
