Hello, greenhorn here.

I’m completely new to western hunting. I hunted with friends a couple times in college and didn‘t see the field much after that until my oldest expressed an interest in shooting and hunting a few years ago. Since then she has harvested whitetail, feral hogs, ducks and dove as well as racked up numerous awards in rifle and shotgun competition. We’ve hunted box blinds and spot and stalk with success from the deserts of West Texas to the piney woods of East Texas.

Hunting has become a family affair with my oldest and middle kids doing most of the harvesting. Everyone is involved in the camping, processing, cooking, eating and character building.

Earlier this year my oldest said she wanted to hunt an elk in the mountains. I did what dads do and entered us both. To our surprise, she drew an Utah youth draw hunters choice tag and we both drew first rifle season bull tags in Colorado. PTO be damned, we will be hunting Utah 9/14-9/22 and the full 5 days in Colorado. With us being in Texas, we won’t have the benefit of preseason scouting in person but we have plenty of time to scout online.

Anyways, thanks for allowing me to join and learn. I’ll spare you the ‘my kid was drawn where do I go‘ post.
