This October I will be living in AZ and have a hunt in CA and haven't decided if I want to drive or fly. Flying has a lot of appeal for obvious reasons but I have never flown with a firearm. I know some of you fly around to hunt, what do you guys prefer? Is flying worth the hassle?

I would drive. I hunt AZ a couple times a year and always drive. You can take what you want for gear and no hassles.

I would drive as well. Easier to bring everything and hopefully meat home. It's not a long drive AZ to CA. I drive to ID/CO for hunts from CA.

I only fly if driving is not practical.
Anywhere in the lower 48 I would give serious consideration to driving. The hassles of airline travel aren't worth it. I say that as someone that has flown out of private airports and business terminals in a Lear Jet, as well as commercial. It's only if I'm seriously limited by time constraints that I will entertain the option of flying.

I live in the far Northwest corner of California and hunted the far eastern edge of Arizona two Januarys ago. Thats as far as you can drive between these two states and I don't regret it. I fly enough as it is and it is just so much more freeing driving for something like this

I despise driving! I hate driving the 4 hours just to Ohio. Anything over 10 I'm flying unless I have a lot of time off just cause rental fees can get a little high for 3 weeks :)

You can bring a lot more gear and get the animal back home a lot easier if you drive. If you have plenty of vacation time so you won't limit your days actually hunting then that's what I would do. Flying is good if you are limited on time but it's generally going to cost you more. Airfare, car rental, getting your trophy and meat back home will add tremendously to your costs.

I used to live in southern California and drove to Tucson every couple months. Its not a bad drive. Plus the amount of time in the airport/flying/getting a rental/getting to your destination I'd say you're probably not saving much time.
