I just did a trip with my uncle for west slope cutthroat near Glacier, and now he has the bug at 79 years old. We are looking to do some 3 day floats but not overnight camping ones or wading trips. Where do we need to go? Late June to early August is best and dry fly action is preferred. San Juan? Madison? Missouri? Thanks

Arrange everything through Headhunter’s Fly Shop in Craig, MT and fish the Missouri. It’s the easy button and you’ll have a blast!

As already mentioned…The Green.
The San Juan quality waters is a 3-4 hour float, maybe 5 if you row back up into some of the big holes like the Texas hole. Lots of big trout though…

Some of the best fishing is actually below the quality waters on the San Juan. Some guides will float from the quality all the way down to Blanco.
