The flat tops that is being refered to in here, is it GMU 12? I have a group from south La. looking to go up there for either muzzloader or second rifle.
The original poster was camped near Budges, so most likely was hunting GMU 24. The ridges are all over the place, of course, but GMU 12 is just a smidgen lower average elevation, especially the northern half of the unit. Same cautions apply.
My 2009 1st rifle in 24 was frustrating. Stupid cold nights in an ancient tent in the valley, long days slogging up Triangle mountain, no snow, old sign, no elk, accompanied by the soundtrack of the fusillade delivered by the apparently successful horse-mounted hunters farther in. Camping by the river didn't cut it. I've learned a lot since then.
