Flashlight Recommendations

I bought a Fenix just before I went to Colorado on elk hunt last year. Couldn't get it to work right, ended up returning it to Scheels. Pretty disappointed

Just a headlamp, an EDC, and a bike lamp (so far). They've just outlasted (and generally outperformed) whatever else I've owned over the years.

90% sure Fenix and Coast are Chinese. BTW- I have Fenix flashlights and headlamps-- both great!

RE Chinese-- you're probably fooling yourself thinking you'll buy a US flashlight. The LED emitter is probably Chinese. The PCB board is probably Chinese and the lens/case probably are as well.

AND... the quality of certain Chinese brands is, dare I say... far better than a Maglite. Maglite totally F'd up and they missed the bus 15+ years ago back when they owned the market. Now they're not even in the stadium parking lot, much less the game.

fenix makes good headlights but they are nowhere equal to elzetta, surefire, malkoff , or modlight for flashlights.

Agree those are some nice lights, but they dang well outta be for $250-400each.

There are plenty of good lights out there for reasonable money without having to spend $250-400 for a US made US milspec light. And quite frankly, at least for my hunting purposes, I don't need a light that will blind someone with 100,000 lumens of output and lasts for 15 min. I need a light that will run a long time at medium to low output with a reasonable beam pattern and decent IPX rating. For me, I have plenty of great equipment but I'd have to get a sanity check for a $300 or more flashlight.
