Been playing with the idea of getting the Labrador to fit over my llana/chama for mid-late season for years now..

Thinking about trying the fleece out instead.. Anyone get to use one yet? It's probably just as quiet and considerably cheaper.. I'm guessing warmer too?

I think I'll mainly be using it mid season as an outer layer when weather isn't super bad.. Then I could just throw my puffy on if it does get bad.. That's my plan anyway.. Sound like a good one?

I have the Labrador and prefer fleece to it. Fleece is lighter, dries more easily, just as quiet, warmer IMO, and cheaper. But on the other hand, I just can't let the Labrador go for some reason. Haven't tried FL fleece though.

I have the Labrador as well. Its is kinda heavy IMO. I like it tho. They run big for sizes tho. I could've gotten by a size smaller. My muley hunt consisted of Kanab pants, chama shirt, Labrador jacket , FL gloves and neck gaiter. 30s in the mornings 80s in afternoons first week of Sept.

The Halstead Fleece is awesome. I've been wearing it a lot, really like it. Wamer than merino, a great fit and not super heavy. Perfect middle layer to keep body heat in when you need to warm up a little. I like having a fleece in my pack.

FL emailed me and said the large weighs 13.9oz. That's exactly what a Pata R1 weighs for reference.

Is the Labrador no warmer than an R1? I already have two pullover R1's but need something a bit warmer for late season stuff. Should I look elsewhere? Everything I have tried from FL has been a keeper that's why I was looking at the Labrador.

There are lots of down puffies under 13 ounces, camo and solids.

Good point, and I already own one! Guess I was looking to fill a need that really didn't need filling....

The Labrador is a interesting in that if you only look at the numbers its not super impressive, but in use its one of the most versatile pieces we make. It does a pretty good job at cutting the wind, but i wouldn't recommend it as a wind layer, it does a good job at keeping you warm but no where near as warm as a puffy pound for pound, but it breaths like no other. It is unique in that if you leave the truck with it on, its amazing how much the temp and exertion can fluctuate before you have to take it off or add another layer. Its strength is great thermal regulation. The fleece was brought on because we wanted a lighter piece that might spend more time in the pack but would provide warmth when the temp dropped or for multi day trips when weight starts to play a bigger role in gear selection. I hope this helps. thanks-KC

Just to clarify KNPV, I was quoting the weight of the Halstead fleece, not the Labrador.
