I’ll be hunting mule deer and black bear for the most part with a tang saftey Ruger M77 in .270 Win for no particular reason other than it goes against the grain of modernity. I can’t stomach to put a modern matte black scope on it so I’ve been looking at 80’s vintage Kahles fixed 4x and 6x scopes. No exposed turrets, German #4 reticle, relying on MPBR and Kentucky windage.

Am I crazy or how much of a handicap will I be putting myself at? I’m in eastern WA and most likely the closest shot I’ll get off is 100 yards, longest shot I’m comfortable taking with this equipment is ~400yds.

Its certainly easily doable to 300 but things will get a little sketchy holding at 400 imo. I run a lot of fixed 6s on my guns. My 270 pushes a 129 LRX at 3150 and with a 250yard zero i’m +2.5/-3.0 at 300 and -12 at 400 which is more than I like to hold over.
