Fit/Sizing for Kuiu Zip-off merino base layer pants

I want to try a pair of the Ultra Merino 145 zip-off base layer pants fro Kuiu. I did some google searches and didn't really come up with much around fit, other than some folks had a hard time with their calves fitting in the pants. I was hoping to get some real world fit examples so I can decide what size to order.

Based on the size chart I am perfectly sandwiched between a XL (Kuiu = 37" waist) and 2XL (Kuiu 39" waist). I wear a 38" waist pair of blue jeans and also have 38" Sitka Ascent and mountain pants that fit pretty well...

I tend to see that Kuiu runs a little small, but I also plan on dropping about 10-12 more pounds before my hunt I would be using these on.

With a 38" waist would you go with XL or 2XL?

KUIU 38 will fit pretty close to Sitka 38 in my experience but with 34. I have size L 145 zip off and KUIU 34 if tight but a good fit in any of the pants and 36 is comfortable but waist Bunche a little with a belt. I have tried Sitka 34 on and they are a little looser. The 145 stretches really well.

Don't go smaller or you'll be pinching the twins. I tried 34 attacks and they fit but were snug. I went with 36 and much more comfortable. I wear 34 waist in jeans etc.

I just received my Kuiu 145 zips in xl. I normally wear 38-40 and the xl fit well. Not too tight or lose. It has an adjustable Velcro strap on each side. I'm very happy with mine and just ordered the 210 zips. Hope this helps
