I know this is primarily a hunting forum, but I'm not really active on any fishing forums so I figured I would ask the question on here. My son and I will be hunting near Riggins, ID in the middle of October and wanted to setup a guided fishing trip for him on the Salmon River while we are there. We are coming from Texas so we are going to make it a full on adventure for our first trip to Idaho. I have done the google search route but wanted to see if anyone on here had any firsthand experience with guides or outfitters in that area worth recommending.

Thanks for your time,

Brandon

May not be worth your time this year. Really poor steelhead run this year and they have cancelled keep season in the entire area. They'll take you money for catch and release but chances of catching a fish are slim.

Bummer, appreciate the advice though. Will definitely think twice before I fork the money out now.

May want to look into sturgeon and small mouth fishing on the Snake River. Not a long drive from Riggins to Pittsburgh landing and the Jet Boat trip up Hells Canyon is worth the guide fee. Plus chance to catch a true river monster.

I fish the Snake for smallies and it's a LOT of fun. I have several friends that sturgeon fish on the Snake and have caught some really big fish. And, Hells Canyon is pretty cool. I haven't done a jet boat trip, but I don't think you'd be disappointed if you went.

Call Rob with Idaho Big River Outfitters, he'll shoot ya straight on what would be worth doing that time of year/this year.
