I am 6’3 and have a leupold 12-40x60 gold ring.
I have been looking at the slik 633 and 733, and possibly the 634 although I think that one may be too short.
I would like to save weight and go with the 633 but not sure if I will need the 2 extra inches and get the 733.
I was Looking at getting the 4 inch slik ball head to go with it. Wondering if anyone is running this setup at my height. Thanks !
Max heights are
633 - 64.2 inches.
634 - 62.6 inches
733 - 66 inches

I think I'm about 6'2", and I benefit from having a little extra height. If your leupold is straight, or if you are also going to use the tripod for binos, then I would recommend going taller. If your leupold is angled, and you are not planning on using your binos, then a shorter one will work.
While standing and using binos or a straight spotter to look straight out towards the horizon, my tripod is probably 62" - 64" with a 4" head for a total height of about 66" - 68" to the point of attachment. It is exceptionally helpful to have additional height when you are looking up a hill. Adding even a little incline to your line of sight will result in some additional height on your tripod.

Happy to help. First advice is if you are using a spotter get a fluid head, not a ball head

If it is a straight spotter add 4 inches for the head 2 inches to the center of the eye piece

If it's angled add another 4 inches

At 6'3 your eyes are at 5'11'

Hope that helps

With ball heads sometimes you have to beef up your scope and base plate. Probably not a big deal with a LEupold GR12-40x60, nice and light. But I use a ball head for a Swarovski ATX85 and I had to rivet the baseplate for the ballhead platform to the base of the scope, otherwise it would slowely work itself loose over a couple hours of hard glassing. Once riveted, no more problems, and that was 5 years ago.

I've been running the first optic research mini tripod for the last little but with their attachment. Nothing but good things to say here. Granted last tripod i used was a cheap one from Cabellas.
