Had a great first trip to Kodiak and already planning the return trip. 5 of us total flew in using 2 beavers each way which was nice to have the extra weight for a more comfortable camp and real food for most of the nights plus room for ice and whiskey to go along with dinner.

We had great weather for the opening week with just enough rain and wind to keep the white socks at bay most of the time - hate those damn things. Saw a handful bears on the flight in mostly down low in the creeks after the salmon plus another 4 from camp but those all were at a distance and they all ran when they winded up.

We each had 2 tags and filled 7 of the 10 but easily could have filled 1-2 more. It was a damn fun hunt in some pretty wild country that will definitely test you.

Thanks guys! We hunted 6 days and were in the field for 8. Of all the bucks - only one had a pair, one was only an UNO and they rest had no nuts or at least that hadn’t dropped. We’re were supposed to get dropped around 1000’ higher on a different lake but couldn’t get in through fog. The lower lake was nice because we had plenty of firewood for a nice fire every night but definitely had more alders to contend with.

NICE! This is our plan for 2023 except we will be going this week for the Goat opener as the primary and Deer secondary.
