Well I am finally headed out for the first time with a floorless shelter. My dad and I will be packing in 3 miles to a lake and doing some fishing. I can't convince him to go floorless so we are packing in a tent as well, for a "just in case". I am ready to go but I am curious if anyone has any advice for this first trip?

I've had good luck with the bug coils. In the spring up here the Mosquitos are thick as thieves and sound like humming birds buzzing around your head. About an hour before bed light about a 3" piece and let it burn out and seems to keep the little demons at bay for the rest of the night.

If your tent doesn't have perimeter netting, consider a bug bivy. Also, bring camp shoes and some ground cover (tyvek is great), or expect to wear boots the entire time, esp. if the ground is at all damp or wet. In my experience, having a stove attracts spiders seeking warmth in the cool night.
