Hey all,
I am going to be heading to Co. in a week to go on my OTC archery elk hunt. We have decided to hunt unit 181 but don't have any reputable knowledge to prepare us for the 5 days we are going to spending in the area. I'm a student at Texas A&M and have been spending as much time as possible doing research trying to prepare us for this hunt, but the vastness of terrain is overwhelming for a whitetail hunter like myself. Im not writing this post to get coordinates or anything of the like but would love the opportunity to talk to someone who knows the area through a phone call if possible. If someone has any general tips or advice for first timers that would be super helpful as well!

No personal experience in the unit, but just go and have a good trip. You’ll learn a lot from the trip, and figure out how you want to tackle the next one. My biggest tip would be to be mentally prepared. 2 miles doesn’t seem like much in the east, but out there 2 miles can seem like 5.
