First time reloading in ages, 300wm

I was reading into the collet die that resizes that section, from what I understand is you don't have to run that die every firing but seems like it wouldn't be a bad idea to make that part of the resizing process every time as well.
Its a good design. The chambers on some rifles benifit from it. It's not a bad idea to have access to one, but I don't know that I'd run out and buy one for one rifle before I'd try other things first.

IME, if you carefully control headspace and keep brass working to a minumim from new on, the primer pockets and necks can be a problem before a bulge just ahead of the belt prevents smooth feeding. By not pushing the brass in the case back by over resizing and then blowing it back out when firing, the process of brass thinning in certain areas and building up in others is significantly decreased.

I've heard of rifles with really tight chambers that benifit greatly from the collet resizing die. I haven't experienced this first hand. I have access to a collet resizing die that a friend owns, but I've never used it.

When trimming cases that you bump the shoulders back on, what measurements would you be looking at? I used to FL size and then trim to the sammi spec in the book. Where do you get a trim to length number from?
