First Time Elk Hunters

This will be my first time going out elk hunting... actually will be a lot of firsts..never been out west, never camped out on the mountains, never been to a place where I havent heard a car from some distance, and first for elk hunting..I am beyond excited and couldnt have been possible if it wasn't for my buddies that invited me to go

Who will be hunting elk for the first time, and what or who prompted you to throw in?

I went for the first time last November and got hooked. I'm joining a group for a 1st rifle hunt year. Deer was the biggest thing I hunted before but that was a completely different experience. Elk feels much more sporting in the amount of effort you have to give to be successful.

Good, I got my cow, wife got a shot at edge of her comfort range and shot right under her. Both of the other guys were met out there hunting adjacent unit filled tags, but they did quite the death march to find them and pack them out.
Definitely learned alot...and alot about how out of shape I am...trying to work on that part. Beautiful country, but definitely not to be under estimated.

Plan to take my oldest son and father after pronghorn this year unless the elk gods smile down and we pull a lucky random tag.
Will definitely pursue wapiti again in the coming years. We've about burned through most of the meat already, good eating critters.
