First time building arrows

Just got done building my first arrows, they are black eagle x impact 300 spine. Cut 27.75 carbon to carbon. 110 grain ethics outsert 100 grain magnus stinger foc 16.5%. What does every body think?

Not to single you out, but I'm sick of hearing "build" arrows when you are assembling a few things.


Look good, lot of helical on a skinny shaft, that ain't always easy. Likely loud, but should stabilize about anything on the front.

They look nice. That’s a lot of helical. Whether you did a good job is based on the flight. If they fly consistently, spin true and can steer your broadhead is all that matters.

Some people see a parachute effect with extreme helical fletching at distances above 60 yards. Not saying you will, but I’ve read it happens.

There are 2 shafts that have more mobble than id care for but they are my grouse arrows now. I honestly wont be shooting passed 60, no competition for me just elk hunting with a fixed 5 pin sight

I know guys who go to knapping conventions, they build broadheads, spears, and knifes from rocks. Taking raw materials like turkey feathers, rocks, sinew, they build arrows.


The YouTube Bro crowd calls things a build when they mount a sight and rest on a bow, or glue some fletching on arrows. Same ones that screw down a base on a rifle, mount some scope rings and level a scope. Call it a build. I know some gun builders, they produce about the whole thing, stocks, actions, and barrels, tho most get to where they specialize in just one aspect.

I get your point completely... i will say i "run" stuff but to each his own. I reload all my ammo dont call it building ammo, makes since to say i assembled my first set of arrows to.

Dont make fun i know target is in bad shape but hard to want to buy new when everybody i know shoots at my house on my target... anyway still need to sight in better but this bow also has never been tuned yet. That said im pretty happy with that at 30

I too once cared about cool fun arrows and FOC

Then you make one poor shot and would trade all the mental arrow masturbation for 500 more arrows on target.

I got the az ez fletch jig so the fletching length is set. 12 shafts were within .4 grains havent weighed since i finished them

I really like the heavy helical and wish I could use it. With how I anchor and place the corner of my mouth and tip of my nose on the string, the higher LT helical was contacting my chin and causing occasional erratic arrow flight...this is from the Arizone archery enterprises EZ fletch. I still intend to test and see a good way of moving the vanes further forward.

I wen't back to my four fletch @ 90 degreees with the Bitz and that cleaned up all contact issues as I'm able to move the fletch up enough to avoid facial contact

I guess im lucky i anchor the same as you and dont have your issue. Just for fun i 4 fletch a trash arrow on the arizona ez. It was way way to much helical with 4 fletches.

I'm trying to figure out a way to push the vane forward about 1/2" in a repeatable way as I do like the heavier helical.

I'm glad that it's working for you. If you have confidence in it and are shooting great groups then don't change a thing.
