Completed my first solo hunt last weekend...being married to an RN means I've had to start venturing out on my own more than I'm used to. This weekend, the pup & I loaded up & drove west to find an antelope buck. By myself. With a 1 yr old pup as a hunting partner... The first day saw 6+ miles on foot, & 11 hours searching. We saw ONE buck. Not cool. A local gave me a tip, & Day 2 we headed waaay south & after 1 busted stalk (coyotes are the devil), I headed back towards home, deciding to look as I traveled. At 10am, I found the group I had tried stalking earlier, and they were 'only' 800 yards from the road! I left the dog (in a "plague" zone, didn't want him infected), grabbed 'Winny,' & started out. Amazingly, I must blend in with sagebrush, as I finally took down the buck at 330 yds. Cool! But my cleaning kit & sled are at the car... 0.8 miles away. Lesson learned (my pack will go ON EVERY STALK). Was an exciting challenge, and I'm grateful for my hubby's support! Here's some pics of the trip...
