I got my first solo elk on the 2nd to last day of 2nd rifle otc. Around Dolores and Mancos Colorado, gmu 73. Got him right at sunset.
I had seen two bulls in the area all of September and early October, but everything changed opening day. I came up with a few plans to use all the pressure and found cows a few days in. Got back on track with the bulls and got this piggy.
I saw them around 6/700 yds coming down a game trail. I ranged two spots they were going to come out 450 and 550 yds. The one with a bigger rack stayed in the gambel while this big boy came out. Got him at just under 450yds with my grandfather's .270 from 51' 🤘🏼20251101_192706.jpg20251101_184744.jpg20251101_194119.jpg20251102_103529.jpg20251028_181629.jpgFrom 7pm - 230am.

I love a solo elk pack out. When that last load finally hits the tailgate it feels like you could fly.
So I met a guy right before I went out that drove out from Alabama and hasn't seen anything all season. I told him to walk with me and told him of a few spots. On his was back he ran into me and helped me bring a load up. The next day, he got the other bull in that spot 🤘🏼

Meat angel! My wife came up with that when we helped some guys pack out 2 years ago.

Congratulations man, that’s awesome ! It’s crazy how often I meet people out in the woods and one of us ends up helping the other one out somehow. It always pays to be a nice guy on the mountain 👍

Congrats man! It's not as bad as it sounds after your first time, is it?
Appreciate it! Man I would say, depends where at(how far from the truck) haha. I packed 3 elk out in 3 days. First day was an absolute shit show. Half mile through the thickest gambel and a mile up and down bad terrain.

Congratulations!
Thanks man, cheers!

Thanks a lot man. I usually leave people be but he asked me for help, and Im glad he did.

He was super nice to chat with and I was happy to share some tips and spots with him.

Super kind of him to stop and help me out and I was beyond excited when he text me and told me he got the other bull that next night, on the last day.
