I'm looking at getting some kind of sleeping pad. Mainly for vacations in Air BNBs with crappy mattresses. I have a bad back and can't sleep on a soft mattress. I want something to add some padding, but not feel like I'm sleeping on a pool float. Any recommendations?

Is this to forgo sleeping in the bed, and instead, on your pad & sleeping bag/quilt, on the ground?

I agree with others, in that it's best to try these in-store if you can. Big Agnes Rapide-SL is a fantastic option. I bought a 20" x 66" for my young son, and even at 6' tall, I think I could sleep well on it if I had to. A 25"x 72" is on my "buy" list.

Thermarest Neoloft would be another option, though this one is leaning towards the 'too-cushy' category. My daughter loves it. It is certainly soft & cushy, but I personally like something more firm. I would have re-sold mine, if my daughter didn't lay claim to it.
