This hunt was my 3rd time hunting out West (I’m from Michigan). My Dad, brother and I drew 4th season tags. We arrived a few days early to do some scouting and learn the lay of the land. We had a great time and were into deer each morning and evening. We were told by some local friends that there would be people everywhere and it would be impossible to get away from other hunters. Definitely wasn’t the case. Just a few miles back and we were mainly hunting by ourselves. I was able to harvest this buck on opening morning. We hunted hard the rest of the week and should have filled all 3 tags but a few mistakes and lessons left us going home with 1/3 tags filled.

Congrats! That’s a good looking buck!

Nice work! My first mule deer was a spike… I had exclusively hunted blacktail prior to that spike and was amazed at how big bodied it was when I walked up on him.
