I really think First Lite disappointed a lot of their customers with this release. If they are really working on windbreaking materials they need to state that. I would assume having only one whitetail pattern is a branding decision based on the concept of having an unmistakable First Lite appearance. One can easily identify Sitka and Kuiu patterns, first lite, not so much. I honestly don't see this pattern accomplishing that, it seems so similar to Cabela's/Bass Pro patterns that only the discerning eye will notice a difference. I would have preferred they limit the line to two patterns with light and dark options.
I am also not convinced that there isn't some sort of disconnect between their whitetail prostaffers and product design. They need to gamble and jump ahead of Sitka with some innovative products. Give us a true system which includes layers you can walk to stand in that vent and can handle some brush. They need to actually be useful when in the stand, the catalyst and corrugate series provide no benefit if needed as a midlayer. I'm imagining something similar to Sitka's Midi system. Make it easy to add and remove layers in tree stand without removing harness, or pulling down bibs/pants. Get rid of reliance on loud puffys that lose insulation value when compressed.
The Solitude set was a huge step in the right direction as a versatile midweight set. For my tastes the Bibs could have used slightly more insulation and the jacket slightly less. Add wind resistance and its near perfect.
First Lite should also be watching in the rear view for KUIU getting serious about whitetail gear at some point.
Simplify whitetail baselayers to the wick, kiln and furnace. Make hooded option and side zips on all pants. Maybe include stirrups on pants so they don't move when adding layers.
Make a boot cover. An insulated wind/waterproof boot cover that was durable, quiet, easy to put on, and not oversized would sell unbelievably well. Make a muff in a similar fashion.
