Anyone have any experience with both the llama or new aerowool with year quarter zip and non zip? I was sold on the QZ but I've had two people tell me the zipper drives them nuts. I run hot and ventilation is huge to me, but I don't want to deal with a uncomfortable zipper if it really is bothersome.

On another note, has anyone gotten to do a side by side with the llama and aerowool?

The zipper on the Llano never bothered me. Just got the new Wilken Aerowool half zip from 1shot this past week, but haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet. Seems like it would breathe much better in a hot environment.

I like my llano quarter zips. I think the new ones are half zip but I could be wrong.

I'd be curious to know what it was a it the zip that was an issue for them?

I've got the QZ Llano and absolutely love it.

Any issue is a 'design' flaw of my body, I have a somewhat hairy chest and find if I zip before moving it away from the body I can get a free 'waxing'. This certainly has made me consider Aron's manscaping escapades as an option.

Personally I can't stand a zipper on a base layer. Just one of those OCD things that drives me crazy. I also can't stand pullover jackets.....need a full zip on a mid or outer layer.

I tried out my Wilken half-zip on yesterday's training hike and it's my new favorite. It allows the breeze to pass through better than the Llano keeping you cooler and it dries A LOT faster. It felt slightly itchier, but that may be because I had a recently peeled sunburn. The half zip is amazing for ventilation, although I did find myself zipping it up a little when passing people on the trail.

I don't particularly like QZ or half zip shirts, but that is just a personal preference.

If you run hot, I'd suggest the Aerowool top. Can't believe how well it breathes and how quickly it dries when wet. I wore mine to the beach crabbing a few weeks ago and was amazed how well it wicks away the water.

How's the fit compared to the Llano?

The zipper doesn't bother me on First Lite stuff but it does on KUIU, actually not so much the zipper but the collar wont lay down on kuiu. I run hot as well and unless it's really cold out I always wear the quarter zip style.

I have a llano in both zip and non zip. Have the aerowool in non zip. I like the quarter zip on the Chama, but not so much on the llano. It can be useful, but the tighter, next to skin fit of the llano made the zipper kind of annoying to me when zipped up. Really liking the aerowool and opted to get it without the zipper. To me the fit is looser than the llano and I too felt it a little more itchy but not enough to worry about. A few more washes may help too. Dries incredibly quick and vents very well. My new favorite hot weather hunting shirt.

zippers typically drive me crazy against my skin. My chama qz does not bother me at all. Have not tried the thinner llano in the zip option.

Do you like the Chama or the aerowool better?

I love the zip! I have both. When it's hot I wear a QZ unzipped. When it's cold Ill wear a non zip under the zippes QZ and a Chama hoodie.

That's a tough one. I like them both for different situations. The aerowool is great for when it's hot. It dries quicker and is more durable. The chama is better when it's a little cooler. Can be worn over a base layer or on its own. I think the chama has a wider range of temps you could use it effectively in, but it can get warm on hot days or if your really active when it's warm out. Plus the 100% wool will pull and snag more then the blend if your going through the thick stuff. All that being said, I find myself wearing the chama more frequently because of its use in wider range of temps.
