First lite puffy

I am also on the FL puffy bandwagon. I really like mine and wear it for just about everything I do outside except when I start to move around. I also have the FL rain jacket and I am thinking about selling it because I never wear it. The puffy has held up in the PNW rain just fine so the need for a second jacket is non existant.

It seems like this is a good, well thought out jacket depending on it's use/fit. For me it was a little too loose of fit, with my build the kuiu products seem to fit much better. For those of you who like the fit I think it's a great piece of gear.

i beleive it was designed that way because it is really an outerpiece. its made to go over what ever your wearing. at least in my eyes it is designed as a piece that goes on while glassing, then comes off again while on the move, depending on weather obviously the kuiu is strictly a layer piece. its designed to only go over a baselayer. soft shells, raingear go over it.

I hear you tipsandtails, and I believe you're correct in the design. But I found in my hunts last year that a base layer ( or 2), a nano vest and my kuiu guide jacket was nice and trim and offered all the warm needed. I found the FL just too bulky for me, but it sounds like it's a great fit for most folks.

It seems this is being more compared to "insulating" pieces, but really it should be compared to other outer layers, like a Guide jacket or a Jetstream, this is the class it was built for.
There is really nothing else on the market like it. It's like a lightweight carhart jacket.

I really love mine, here in ca so far its just about useless for any hiking but when I sit to glass it is super warm and comfy and the rest of the time it is way lighter than anything comparably warm and I leave it in the pack. It has also been amazing for all around wear around town and what not. It will blow away a kuiu guide jacket in terms of warmth

I personally would keep the rain jacket. If you had to hike a bit in the rain you would get way to warm in the Uncompaghre. That's an ideal time to whip out your Stormtight. You need that non insulating breath-ability that you can't get from the puffy. At least in my opinion, for whatever that is worth. : )

Whether an insulating jacket has DWR on it or not, it is never completely water proof like a rain jacket. If you suspect rain, your best bet is a rain jacket and if you are doing any hiking, a puffy is the last thing I would want to wear. That's just me though...

X2. Unless the weather is warm and I know I can dry out quickly (think early season bow hunting with spotty showers) I'll have the rain jacket in my pack. I wore it ONCE this entire fall in over 35 days in the field. Just got lucky with weather I guess... But it's a minimal weight penalty for insurance on those 30-50* rain showers where it's tough to get dry.

I've abused mine for the last year and it still is in excellent shape. My only complaint is, I wish the inside lining was black in color and not white.
