I really like the Eberlestock Mainframe, I have 2 as I got the Mainframe 2 when it came out and I already had the original. I like the frame shelf, I use it for rucking, I put a rogue strongman sandbag on the frame shelf and strap it in for rucking around my neigborhood, easy to change ruck weight and slap the pack options on when gearing up for a hunt or hike, and it can handle a heavy load really well. Only thing I'm not sure if it has the best setup for is the rifle scabard with the rifle pointing down and the top pocket open, I have buddies that strap the rifle to the side of the pack and have a barrel protector so moisture and debris dont go down the barrel, I haven't figured out a good setup for rifle pointed up on the Mainframe, could strap it to the frame but the scabbard is so quick pulling out the rifle I wouldn't want to complicate the process.
Also, as much as I like the Mainframe with the shelf, the Modframe is more comfortable rucking, just doesn't have a shelf, I think the load pocket on the Modframe would have difficulty loading as much weight/meat/hide/skull bulk as the Mainframe with the shelf tho. Haven't hunted with the Modframe yet tho so can not confirm.
I use(d) a Silk Sling original for handful of years on my Mainframe and last year on my Modframe and worked great. I lost the bottom butt holder/pouch last year and Ive got a new bottom pouch I am going to try with the Slick sling upper.
When I got my Modframe I had same impression or concern it wouldn't carry the weight as good as the Mainframe because it just felt that way rucking sandbags. I did a few different meat hauls, twice with bone in hinds and one bone in front mule deer and it was amazingly stable and comfortable - better than Mainframe IMO, like it was made for meat! I never carry anything on the Mainframe low enough to bring the load shelf hoop thingy in play - I think it's too low personally.
Modframe with 3/4 of big mule deer buck.

I put a Kuiu load shelf doo-dad I got for like $25 on my Mainframe to keep sandbags nice and high. 40# bag:
