First bolt action...

For the money it's really hard to beat a Tikka. I wanted to hate them but now I own one. My neighbor is one of those shoot a mile guys and he talked me into one. No regrets.

Was checking Gunbroker last night, Long Range Hunter in 300 Win Mag near the top of the page, little over 800 bucks but now.. The adjustable cheek piece strikes me as a handy thing. Should be a little easier to get a solid cheek weld, make mounting optics a slightly less position sensitive proposition...
Which circles right back around to stock fit.

Oh nice! I'll look it up

Looks like I'll be picking up a barely used Tikka T3 SS 300 WSM.

Now to a scope. Is there anything in the $500-750 I should look at? Or should I hold out for say a Nightforce SHV?

I would check out a Nikon Monarch and see if you can even tell the difference. If my 5R hadn't come with a Leupold Mark 4 I woulda probably gotten a Monarch.

Although, I'd like a mildot reticle... hmm.

Yeah, unfortunately their Mildot doesn't have turrets, but they do have 2 models with mildot. They also have the BDC reticle, which some would like better for hunting, but doesn't have dots for windage and some also don't have turrets. This in BDC might meet your needs: http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-monarch-5-4-20x50-ed-riflescope.html

Edit: Just noticed that the BDC version also doesn't have turrets... seems like it may be a problem if you really want long range with a graduated reticle as I think the BDC only goes out to 600 yards.

Check out the Vortex Viper PST or HS with the MOA or MIL reticle. Ive been running one for the past 4-5 years on my 300RUM with absolutely no issues.
