Howdy Gang,

Just acquired our first ATV and I am wondering what essentials folks keep in their storage totes?

First Aid, some non-perishable food stuffs, spare jacket/gloves, tool kit, etc. seem like no brainers.

Appreciate any additional input.

I used to carry more but in many years and thousands of miles a tow strap and a flat tire kit are all I have ever actually used while out riding.

Already mentioned, but a tire plug kit and pump are a mandatory. I got the heavy duty Pittsburgh (silver with yellow hose) pump from HARBOUR FRIGHT, thing has been bullet proof.
Also upgraded my plug kit with an extra can of glue from the auto parts store and more plugs.

We pick up a lot of sticks in the desert.

Be aware that you can be bounced in directions that other types of vehicles haven’t prepared you to anticipate. As with any motor sport, it helps to be around experienced riders and learn from their mistakes and stories of getting banged up. For some reason a large number of folks get life flighted hauling ass through open gates, after getting squirrely and running into a post. Weird, but killed one of my friends and a couple more ended up in the emergency room.

Inexperienced hill climbers get crunched up if it comes over on top of you. Same thing if it tips over sideways on top of you. Carry your insurance card.

Oh, and if you get on a go-fast recreation area, expect someone to come over the top of a blind hill or corner and wipe you out head on. Anyone that rides those type of areas will have good war stories and battle scars.

As you ride always let someone know where you’ll be - getting pinned under one riding solo is always a possibility.

The little 12v booster packs are essential. Especially if your machine doesn't have a pull start which most don't. I also take a 1/2" ratchet with the correct socket to remove the wheels. Also a spare belt.
