Fire Fire everywhere and not a place to hunt

This is so sad, from San Francisco to San Diego and everywhere in-between.
I was hoping that I could sneak into My Doe bowl but that looks unlikely by
this weekend.
With L.A. and SB NFs shut down hard there is just no place to go, hopefully
with in the next 3 months non-burnt areas will start opening up.
I was so looking forward to filling my A31 and retiring my Proline, Guess I
could pray for Rain ?

Is Fish and Wildlife redeeming preference points for draw hunts if all forest land stays closed? I had a friend who checked out a piece of BLM ground the last weekend of A zone general and he said it was a shit show, people, people and more people, there was no getting away from the crowd.

This is what happens when they let decades of "Spotted Owl" environmentalists make the decisions on how to manage the forests- [Hint, they don't manage it]....just leave it 'natural' with the huge amount of fuel that creates.

Then of course the "natural" cycle is for huge fires to sweep through and wipe everything out. But if you listen to the NYT....its all due to climate change.

This is the unforeseen impacts of the environmentalists getting their way in CA. Sad.



I suppose the reason we don't hear the truth is that a Cal Fire chief that comes forward and states the truth on this forest mismanagement would be fired immediately for not conforming to the liberal DEM narrative.

I was planning on calling and checking tomorrow but aren't the state-run WLA's still open for public access? I still have a few spots in D3-5 that I normally hunt turkey in that hold some deer... that's looking like my only realistic option at this point

California’s National Forests Temporarily Close Due to Wildfires; Hunters and Recreational Users are Urged to Stay Away

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, the U.S. Forest Service announced the temporary closure of all national forests in California due to unprecedented and historic fire conditions. These properties are closed to the public, effective immediately, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is urging hunters to follow the order and keep away.

“We know that hunting opportunities will be impacted throughout the state, but no hunting opportunity is worth a human life,” said Chief David Bess, Deputy Director and CDFW Law Enforcement Division Chief.

California Code of Regulations Title 14, section 708(2)(b) prohibits CDFW from refunding deer tag application fees, but refunds may be issued for select elk, pronghorn antelope and bighorn sheep tags. Additionally, some premium deer, elk, pronghorn antelope and bighorn sheep tags may be returned to CDFW with a request to have preference points reinstated and one preference point awarded for the species for the current hunt year. Tag return and preference point eligibility requirements and additional information may be found on CDFW’s website.

CDFW will continue to monitor and close areas as needed. National forests and evacuation zones will remain closed until authorities allow them to re-open. Because the situation is rapidly changing, CDFW strongly encourages hunters to use the following links to research closures and open areas prior to leaving for any hunt:

CDFW Seeks Authority to Refund Elk and Pronghorn Tags for Areas Impacted by Wildfires and Forest Closures
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is pursuing a regulation change that would allow elk and pronghorn (antelope) hunters whose seasons were cut short or eliminated due to wildfires and forest closures to receive a refund of their 2020 tag fees along with a restoration of their preference points used to acquire their tags. Eligible hunters would also receive an additional preference point for elk or pronghorn for the 2020 season.
The new regulation, if approved, would be effective April 2021. At this time, the CDFW is asking affected hunters to hold on to their tags, as they will be needed to request a refund and point reinstatement if the new regulation is adopted. Additional information will be posted here when it becomes available.

Elk, pronghorn antelope, and bighorn sheep tags can be returned to the CDFW License and Revenue Branch by mail prior to the hunt opening day for a refund (minus the 2020 nonrefundable processing fee of $30.90) if the hunter is unable to hunt. A written request must accompany the tag surrender. The request must be postmarked prior to the earliest date the tag is valid for hunting. If approved, preference points will be reinstated and one preference point will be awarded for the species for the hunt year ((CCR T14-708.14(k)). Deer tag fees are nonrefundable regardless of closures due to fire, weather, or other natural disasters (CCR T14-708.2).

Premium deer hunt tags cannot be exchanged, but customers unable to hunt may surrender their tag via mail to the CDFW License and Revenue Branch prior to the season start date along with a written request. The tag must be postmarked prior to the earliest date that the tag is valid for hunting. If the request is approved, preference points will be reinstated and one preference point will be awarded for the species for the hunt year ((CCR T14-708.14(j)). Premium deer tags are defined as any hunt in which the quota filled on or before the first business day after July 1 of the previous year. Restricted and unrestricted deer tags may be exchanged by mail at any CDFW license sales office if all of the conditions below are met (CCR T14-708.4). As of September 10, 2020, there are not any 2020 deer tags that meet all of the conditions below. Therefore, no 2020 deer tags are eligible to be exchanged.

• The earliest season for the tag to be exchanged has not yet opened. In most cases this is archery season, but check season dates for confirmation.
• The tag quota for the tag to be exchanged has not filled.
• Tags are still available for the zone to be requested.
• The exchange fee of $11.07 for the exchange tag accompanies your request.

If all of the tag exchange conditions above are met, you must contact a CDFW license sales office via telephone or email to arrange your tag exchange.

Guess I will hold on to my A31 Tag and hope to Hunt, if they get this fire contained on the east edge I could
Hunt. Never collected points and always got my desired tags so why turn it in?

Well... thankfully them pulling similar isht in 2018 in terms of deciding to close down access road to my main point of focus beginning the very same day General season began.... unfortunately got me prepared for this eventuality by forcing me to add other locations into the rotation that year. Got two places in mind that they can't close a person out of. No way possible to do so.

But whatever... even if that doesn't pan out? I will be doing my damndest all winter long to take out as many predators as I can get my blood-soaked hands on. To make up for these major A-holes closing off places unaffected by these fires that had NO DIFFERENCE to their normal temps/weather/fire-danger levels!

These A-holes are just straight-out being lazy. Didn't even contemplate the possibility of stating some restrictions like cold-camping with no flaming heat sources. No... not these A-holes... just lazy... just "Close 'Em All!! Newsom all like "Make them BOW Before ME!!!"
