Finished Up Another Osage Bow

Most probably the stiff grip and and riser/fades, and cut-in arrow shelves. I make mine just wide enough to hold an arrow while hanging or leaning so I'm hands-free while I wait for a critter to wander by. A lot of the Native style bows bend through the handle section, allowing a relatively longer draw for the shorter overall bow length. With that said, there are a lot of varieties and styles of bows both long and short throughout different cultures and tribes, even from the same general areas. I'm far from an expert on the subject, but I do have several reference books for bows and Native history is one of my favorite things to read about when I have time. I also always played the Indian as a kid when we played Cowboys and Indians ; )

Super cool, I have several hickory, hophornbeam, and maple staves in the basement that have been there 10 years waiting for me to have some time again. I used to be able to find Osage when I lived in IA but nothing this far north. Where do you get your staves?

Thanks. I have a good variety of wood myself, I always find myself reaching for the yellow stuff myself so far, though.
I've gotten it networking on forums, found it at shoots and been gifted quite a bit by generous guys getting out of the hobby. Also got leads to guys selling off their stash in nearby towns, etc. Also found some green cut stuff on Etsy I just put away to dry and season while I carve on other staves. It's getting up there in price, especially the primo wood. Glad I have a decent amount now, but I'm always looking.
There's a few legit guys in the primitive bow groups on FB that sell nice stuff, too.
