A friend and I are hoping to draw Iowa for archery this year. We spent a couple of days there recently, mostly looking at public land. Found some nice looking pieces, but heard a lot of talk from the locals about hunting pressure.
We aren't opposed to leasing if we find the right piece, but kind of at a loss of how to find it. We did knock on some doors and came up with some leads, but not sure those will pan out.
Anybody have any tips or tricks to finding leases? Obviously knocking on doors face to face is the best, but distance from the area, catching people at home, etc. makes that more difficult. I've seen guys post on Craigslist - not sure if that is ever productive. I've thought about sending letters to farms randomly identified on OnX, but again, likely a long shot. Anybody have any secrets to share?
If a lease doesn't work out we'll make the best of public. Just judging by the size of the parking lots on some of these places makes me think Iowa people might not know what real pressure is. I guess we'd find out.
