Finally using the Darn tough lifetime warranty

100 miles a year is light use on a pair of socks. I have smart wool and darn tough and the darn tough are substantially more durable.

How many pair do you have? I have 17. I wish I was able to hike more than 1700 miles a year. But I do have a job.

Thanks for posting that, I have some packed up ready for the PO.

Good to hear. I just swapped to darn tough from farm to feet. FTF were getting holes in less than a year, which I didn’t think was reasonable for $30+ socks. They replaced a few pairs once, then when I went to do the process again, they gave me some flack saying I’d just “worn” them out. These weren’t old socks, holes were in arch where material was very thin and transitioning into thicker by design (poor design), not a high friction area.

My uncle also said darn tough was really good to him and his unit while deployed, if anyone needs another reason to support them.

Just warrantied a few. Easy process and ended up buying another because I had some $ left over from what they credited me.

I did not feel conflicted because I had some holes in the pairs I sent back.

I've got 4 pairs that all have holes in them right on the ball of my foot, its where all my socks wear out. They lasted a rediculous amount of time compared to others, so I felt bad sending them in. I feel like I got my moneys worth. When I start considering that I'm over 100$ into those socks, I might change my mind and send some off for new pairs. Im sure the manufacturing cost is pretty low.

The warranty is built into the price. Wash them and send them back. My assumption/hope is that they are able to grind up the old wool and recycle in future socks or else they wouldn't warranty them.

Curiosity got the best of me, and the warrantied socks are indeed recycled.

"After inspecting your socks, they eventually get tossed into a bin where they go on to get recycled into practical things... like emergency blankets. At least the clean ones do. Dirty – e.g. fire damaged socks – are recycled separately and then used as stuffing for automotive seats... some local trivia you can share with your friends."

I too am trying Darn Tough socks…got 3 pair for Christmas and am enjoying them so far.
