Finally moving this year UT > Pinedale, WY

Congrats! Hope everything works out well, update this thread in a year and let us know what you learned and how everything goes!

Good luck!!!

I went through Pinedale several years ago and stopped at a local store. An older gentlemen worked there and we starting talking. He was the retired school principal, was originally from PA and was from the same town as my best friends dad in PA. Really nice man. I remember it as a really nice and clean small town. Best of luck with your move.

I think I met the same guys a few years ago. Was this at a furniture/sporting goods store? I had a less pleasing interaction with him. Probably mostly because we were buying NR fishing licenses and it was immediately post covid along with the BLM movement madness so he had a few things to tell me about people moving in that weren't really justified.

However, that confirmed that I wanted to move there as I don't have any worry of the town becoming another Park City or similar haha

That was him. Kinda of a weird store. I wanted to take a break from driving and thought I would check it out. He wasn't overly friendly at first but once I got him talking he was ok with me. He taught in Princeton, NJ before moving out to WY and my cousin taught in the same school district in NJ. My parents were teachers in PA and I grew up about 2 hours from his hometown. He knew I was just passing through too. This was all pre-covid.

Randomly stopped in Pinedale for coffee - about the last place you’d expect to find a hipster coffee shop; but sure as shit there was one and it was 10/10 coffee. Pine Supply or something along those lines. It was my favourite town we passed through on a road trip and would love to visit again. I live in small town BC so I love a good anti-outsider vibe, makes me feel at home.

I’m in Buffalo also. Just over a year. I love it. Wife does too. Sorry, don’t know anything about Pinedale.

Figure out what tags you can get as NR so you have something to hunt here this fall and use your pref points if you have any. Last year I drew antelope and got a cow tag off leftover list. Didnt draw deer and left 11 points on the table.

Following with interest. Lived in W. Co. for a few years and loved it. Not sure I want to do oColorado with the way things are headed. We would like to buy a home and slowly make the move after I retire (1-2 years).

Spend a bit of time in the Star Valley area. The other areas that (at first glance) interest us are the Buffalo/Sheridan area as well as the Cody area.

My family will be moving from Utah to the Pinedale, WY area by August. We'll be looking at some houses over the next couple of months and will hopefully get our current home listed by end of May.

We've been up there quite a few times over the last 10 years and have dreamed of moving there for nearly as long.

Is there anyone on the forum that lives in that valley relatively near Pinedale?

Any tips on becoming a resident hunter there other than reading the regs and learning an entirely new system and area?
Good for you - exciting times!!

I spend quite a bit of time in Sheridan - love it and Wyoming in general.

We spent a night near Pinedale one fall. Got checked in early and the airbnb host told us where we might go see some wildlife before dark. Ended up seeing 2-3 moose. When we left the next morning we saw a couple more moose in a different area, then as we went south that morning we saw a few deer and antelope.

Seemed like a nice place, all things considered.

Congrats on the move— sounds amazing. Curious how you settled on Pinedale? Did you look in Star Valley at all?
We've been there and looked a few times, but it doesn't have some of the resources that Pinedale does that we want for our daughter.

Congratulations on your move. That's an exciting new life adventure for you and your family. I love the Pinedale area and its access to the Wind River Range.

That makes a lot of sense. Both are pretty comparable in terms of distant back to SLC but Pinedale definitely seems to offer a bit more in terms of resources for the family. I appreciate you sharing!
