8 years, 4 moose hunts and thousands of dollars later I finally put a tag on a moose! I did go help some friends on a DIY hunt last year and of course on their first ever moose hunt they both got bulls but my luck has been as good and I've always gone the cheaper route which hasn't helped but I've learned a ton and had unbelievable adventures that I wouldn't trade for anything! 4 years ago my buddies and I booked with Renfros and it was a great trip, everything went very smooth and I couldn't have been happier with their service. We saw numerous bull from landing, I passed on a lot of moose and 2 bull that would have scored a good bit better than mine but I really wanted a bull with nice palms and good paddles, I didn't care much for the long tines or forked fronts. I'm so grateful to have harvested this bull and I couldn't be happier! It was weird to be in a position to look over so many moose and not have a desire to hurry and shoot one after so many close calls and coming home empty handed. I'm super grateful for all the trips that didn't turn out because it really made me just appreciate the journey and adventure of my hunts out there and the hunts I do back home for deer and elk.
I promised my wife after this hunt that I wouldn't go back to Alaska till all my kids are out of the house, which is 10 more years, so I'm now at a loss of what to obsess over but we'll see where I go from here. I have to give a huge thank you to this amazing page and for all the people that have given so much great input over the years! Good luck to everyone and I'll be looking to pay it forward on this page to anyone that needs it!20250913_222700_455CED.jpg20250913_222519_46C763 2.jpg

I am 4 for 4 on moose, but it took me 8 trips to finally kill a big tom mountain lion. I have felt your joy and pain. Congratulations for not quitting.

Outstanding! Right there with you at 5 trips and 42 hunting days to tag my first one. Made it very sweet indeed when it finally happened. Don't want to think about how many dollars. Wouldn't trade any of it for anything.
