Long range 300 IMO. If you're going to be shooting out to 400 yrds, you are going to need range time and that has the heavy barrel for that. I took my 30-06 and limited it to 450 yrds just due to ballistics past that. Wound up shooting mine at 660 yrds with a 30 Hart, guides gun. I was looking at the x-bolt long range in 300 wm, but got an incredible deal on a new Savage High Country in 300wm. I keep looking at the x-bolt though....get proficient out to what ever range you can, that big one might just be out there. Good glass is a MUST out that far as well.. from what I've researched, the 300 has best potential with 200+ gr bullet. You read alot of people shoot 180 gr. I want the most and best outta mine out to/past 600 yrds so I'm thinking 210gr best but hard to find factory and have to see what the rifle likes..
