I just want to hunt and get away and in all honesty would refuse to hunt with someone that's filming it.

Not to mention the last thing I need is a video reminder of how much I can sometimes suck.

yep agree totally. I think the whole video thing is just ridiculous. And worse I think it promotes bad/illegal hunting practices. It is tough to get an animal to stand still long enough for good video and a good shot...you know the best way to help that... BAIT. I knew a very good game warden once who worked almost entirely undercover. Granted this was 20 years ago and the video craze was just taking off but he flat out said one time "show me a video camera with a hunter and I will find a pile of bait."
Worse still is much of the video just paints hunters in such a bad light. 90% of the time when i see hunting videos on line i just cringe at how badly non hunter must think of hunters.
Sure there are a couple groups that have managed to turn it into a profession and some of them actually do a very good job of capturing the great parts of hunting, but those groups are by far the exception.

Hahaha I'm like the exact opposite, but to each their own I guess. I almost can't even read articles or listen to stories without pictures or videos. Maybe I am just imagination poor, haha. I don't ever video because it is just way too much work for what little reward I personally get out of it but I try my best to take some photos without interrupting the hunt/experience.

The worst is when you meet someone and you're talking about hunting or previous hunts and then they gotta get their phone out and flick through photos while you stand there waiting so they can show you some animal they killed in the past. I don't really care, I just met you, I can see big animals all day on the internet. A description of the hunt or animal is just fine.

I would argue that the amount of hunters that do more damage to the perception of hunting by opening their mouths far out weighs the amount of damage done by videos.

Until it’s the ones on the videos opening their mouths. But like any other group, there’s some real bad ones, and some real good ones. Adventures with TK and Mike were the last true great hunting videos lol

I enjoy watching well done YouTube videos but have no interest in filming myself.

I really don't see it as any different than writing trip reports we all love to read. What's the first reply always? Pics or it didn't happen! From there it's just a book vs. movie debate.

I think the main difference is writing about your experiences that night or after the hunt doesn't take away from the moment you are in. I have buddies that are more about documenting the moment rather than living the moment.

I have friends who film all their hunts. They re-create the money shots and do several re-takes of them finding the animal. They have youtube channels, internet shows and some are on tv. It's so phony and contrived. Not that im against filming, but the whole commercialization of hunting brings out the worst in some. Through a good friend, I've met and spent time with some of these TV hunters and couldn't get away fast enough from their ego driven conversations. Pontificating buffoons! Although, i will say Fred Eichler is the exception and a hell of a nice and sincere guy.
I've seen guys kill animals they would often times pass on, but they "needed" the footage. I've encountered wonton waste because they "needed" the footage. I've seen friendships ruined because of sponsorships and others holding out on freebies and not distributing the gear. Trespassing is a big one for some guys. Baiting when and where not allowed. All this for a few extra likes and 15 minutes, or bragging rights. No thanks. I enjoy documantary styled hunt films and considering making my own sans ego.

My dad filmed some of his elk hunts in the early 90s in Colorado. When I was a kid still too young to go with. He has video of his camps, the horses packing them in, general hunting area, which are all really cool. Then he has video of two bulls fighting at like 40 yards, video of where he shot his elk from, where it ran to and died and all that.
Those were my absolute favorite things to watch when i was a kid. I couldn't get enough. My dad was like superman the elk hunter. So I will try and film some of what I do out there for my son to have that experience and catch the hunting bug.
