Good stuff - thanks guys. I'm in Kansas, so some of these suggestions are easier than others. Not much for ice fishing or pigs here. We have plenty of coyotes - I'll probably give that a go this winter.

Agree with this, but the mountains are too damn far away from KC. I'm planning a spring bear trip for May. Realistically, in the area I'm going, it's an elk scouting trip with a bear tag in my pocket.

Damn i miss AZ. Such a great place and such a variety of critters/times of year to hunt. Headed back down in Feb for a javelina hunt with some buddies from down there.

I got folks in the Sedona area, love it down there, actually starting to think about getting away from Wyoming and these nasty winters.

I'd have to agree with @mtnbiker208 ; I'm in the mountains year round- a couple of months in the fall big game hunting- the rest of the year hiking, backpacking, peak bagging, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, etc

I reload quite a bit and test reloads at the range, also try to shoot some 3d archery to keep me sharp, and bring quite a few beers!

I hit our indoor range with my 22LR rifle and practice shooting offhand. At 50ft, if you can't hold a 1/4" group (1MOA is 0.166" at 50ft) it's you. There is no wind and bullets don't veer far at 50ft.

I shoot 3D archery and train my dog, run when I can to try to stay in some kind of shape.

I shed hunt quite a bit from late March-June, then I golf and hit the river with the raft till August, August-January I hunt. I recover in mid-January thru mid-March. Hell of a life

I have a bit of a hunting obsession. I hunt every chance I get in the spring (turkeys) and fall (whitetail, mule deer and elk). This tends to leave a void in my life from January through March and from June through August. What do you guys do to fill the void or redirect the obsession during the offseason?

Hunt coyotes, steelhead river fishing, side jobs to pay for hunting, and shoot both bow and rifles. Of course that’s in between family obligations

Guess all you folks must be single? Spend the first "off season" month asking for forgiveness of the Mrs. for hunting more than I promised I would while stating she's more than welcome to come along. One of these years she's gonna take me up on it. Then onto all the same stuff everyone else does.

I have a year and a half old mountain cur and a 7 month old beagle so they keep my plenty busy this time of year chasing squirrels and rabbits.

I love scouting trips and glassing to see what the animals are up to. Learn potential migration patterns if acclimate weather comes early (like 2 seasons ago for where I hunt). I like to learn potential new areas as well.

If you’re scouting more than you’re hunting, in my book, you’re doing it right.

Spear fishing as much as I can in warm climates, that takes care of the hunting itch. Might start goat hunting midwinter if I can build up the brownie points. Otherwise it's playing in the mountains with the misses.

Duck/goose hunting, winter steelhead fishing, work out hard to stay in shape for elk season. Also, I take care of as many things as I can around the house, it tends to help my wife have a better attitude come hunting season when I leave on a trip.

Picked up a few older snowmobiles this past summer and got them going with the kiddo in the evening hours. We have miles and I mean miles of groomed roads here during the winter months .
