Field optics vs outdoorsmans bino adapter

Outdoorsmans, but man you will pay for it... I used the Jim White adaptor for a long time (now the Vortex Unidaptor) and I liked that a lot. Once I bought swaros, I wanted something that would lock in and be easy to put take on/off the tripod. The outdoorsmans fit the bill, but the price is retarded for a couple of pieces of machined aluminum.

The outdoorsmans does rock in an arc no matter how much you tighten it. It really isn't a big deal, however.

This is why I'm leaning towards the field optics right now. I haven't heard anything bad about it really and it's half the price. I'm afraid it may come down to the same rational as when I picked the conquests over the slc's. I didn't pick them because their better binos, I picked them because they're better for the money.

Unidapter is ok but it is not rock solid at all, that was my first adapter I used. Outdoorsmans is a little more expensive but really only around what $35 more so not crazy expensive.

I see your point Mr. Dotman.

35 bucks is not that much more if someone can convince me that it's worth it.

Hopefully this works. Let me know if you can't access the video. I'm not great at making videos and it was tough to show the setup with one hand while filming with my phone in the other but hopefully you get the idea.

^^^^good video. Yup the bino does need to be able to move in order to get them properly fitting your face but as he shows it is solid.

I've had some difficulty popping the binos off my Field Optics adapter. Seems like a tight fit. Probably something that a smudge of lithium grease will solve. Like it when classing tho.

That's the biggest reason I went with the Outdoorsman. I felt it wasn't easier to use especially with cold hands.

I'll try and get a video of the field logic system. It's pretty solid setup I can't really see how your binocular would fall off.

Sorry brewer it won't let me add video. There is quite a noticeable amount of movement when I video it definitely not as solid as outdoorsman appers. I personally don't notice any wobble when glassing using the field logic though

No worries,

One more question. If I go with the outdoorsmans, will it slide into the pro master head or am I gonna have to buy an adapter plate? Sorry for noob question. This is my first rodeo with tripods and accessories.

If you go with the Outdoorsmans you'll need an adapter plate to fit the Promaster tripod. I think the tripod might come with one already but if not you can buy one pretty cheap/easily. The Outdoorsmans only mount to Outdoorsman tripod heads without an adapter plate as far as I'm aware.

Ok, you guys have convinced me. I'm gonna go with the outdoorsmans mount, but staying with my initial tripod and head decision.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I really appreciate the help.

Just to clarify: if you already have a plate for your tripod (which you should), then the outdoorsmans tripod mount will screw directly on the 1/4-20 screw on your plate. If you plan on having a dedicated plate for your binos, then you will need another plate. For example, I have one plate with the tripod mount screwed on and a second plate which is attached to my spotting scope and I just swap plates to swap optics. The adaptor plate is only if you are using the outdoorsmans tripod heads or if you only want to use one plate.
