I’ve got my eye on the Field Optics Research Promax FT-6233A tripod and topping it off with their pan head. I’m trying to keep the setup under $250. Does anyone have any experience with those items or would anyone recommend a tripod with similar specs?

Just got their pan head this week. Honestly for the money, it's really really nice. Crazy smooth, seems to be just as nice as some heads I've tried for way more money. I'm taking it on a Coues hunt next week, I'll let you know how it does!

They make pretty good stuff for the money. Their ball heads lock up nice and tight and are really smooth. However, I do think their tripods leave something to be desired. For the price, it’s hard to go wrong with them.

I really like mine and love the 2 detachable legs, they are really great tripods for being not too expensive but also not cheap.

If you use code AMPED10 you get 10% off any order from their website.

Thanks guys for the info.. still on the fence but I might give them a try

Has anybody tried using the detachable legs as walking sticks? I love the idea of not having to carry a tripod PLUS two sticks but those detachable legs look a little too robust to be lightweight.

Interested to hear any experience.

I have done it and it's not too bad. I wouldn't recommend using them all the time full time..but I went in with just the tripod, used the legs to set up my tarp and then used them as trekking poles on the way out for a bit and it all went well.

yeah, I think I'm probably going to bark up a different tree for weight loss. I really rely on my poles and consider them critical kit. I think I'd prefer to find a way to use my trekking poles in a tripod rather than my tripod legs as treking poles.

Thanks for the info though.

No problem, I'd for sure be scared to use them hiking in for a hunt and risking a damage to a tripod. I consider a tripod very critical
